The George Boole Medal of Honour

Mr. Narayana Murthy has been selected as the first recipient of The George Boole Medal of Honour, for his Distinguished Contribution in developing the Information Technology Industry in India. The award will aptly be presented to Mr. Murthy by Wg Cdr Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian in space.



The George Boole Medal of Honour is awarded annually to an individual, team or organization, for their profound and consistent contribution to India's development through their endeavours in the field of Information Technology.

The award consists of a medal and a cash award of Rs.1,50,000, which can be presented to a charity of Mr. Murthy's choice.

The award ceremony will be a part of the "India's Greatest Technology Leaders" conference in Bangalore, which will be held on January 15th, 2009. Mr. Murthy will make the first keynote address at the conference.

The George Boole Medal of Honour has been instituted by Great CIO, Asia's largest social network of CIO's, IT Management and Technology leaders, headquartered in India. The award is named after George Boole, who is well-known as one of the founding fathers of Computer Science; he was the inventor of Boolean Algebra, which is the basis for all computational transactions.
